With more than 15 years of experience in the creative industry, I had the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients including Sony, Sky, Virgin and Barclays, News UK just to name a few.

Customer satisfaction and a desire to create quality products that people want have been of interest to me, even before I started my master’s degree in product design at the University of the Arts in Berlin.

The relationship between the user and product/service fascinates me and the challenge to improve the quality of the user experience has been my passion for many years.

UCD/UX design is a process that I have been using in various ways through my career. Methods such as gathering user data through research, defining user needs, developing solutions, creating and testing prototypes in real-world scenarios, allow me to gain insights into customer needs and limitations, resulting in products that meet the expectations of the end-user and deliver on the company’s promise.

A user-centered approach and holistic design view are at the core of every project I work on.

From its conception in 2007, the Vision for the Creativepool we have today was to demonstrate the importance of putting the work first. Widely known as the unique ‘Linkedin for the creative industry,’ Creativepool has grown to a quarter of a million members, allowing them to get noticed, find opportunities and showcase themselves amongst a like-minded creative community.

Michael Tomes and Jason Rosehill are part of the mighty Creativepool; with Mike as head honcho & founder, and Jason as Global Recruitment Account Manager.

Whether it’s getting noticed and ‘putting your work first,’ building your own website from your Creativepool profile in two clicks, being part of crowdsourcing for design briefs through the network, or simply looking for the right job, these guys know how you can ‘get ahead’ in the industry.

Before the birth of the Creative Network and platform, Mike started out studying Economics in New Zealand where he grew up, eventually owning his own design firm before moving to the UK in 1999. He tried to boldly move here by cycling with three mates, but only reached Singapore before re-thinking it through.

After growing up on the coast in Essex and studying Music Technology in Birmingham, Jason’s background started in the creative production industry. Strangely (most will say) Jason transitioned into recruiting for the creative sector, eventually working as an internal Talent Manager for a number of Ad Agencies in London. As well as being an experienced, practicing freelance graphic designer, Severino is also focused on researching and writing on data visualisation. His work has been featured in a number of books, articles and award competitions on the subject of infographic design and data journalism.

Severino’s main project, The Data Visualisation Catalogue, is both a research project and a widely-used learning resource in the industry. From this project, Severino has accumulated knowledge on at least 60 different forms of visualisation, and continues to study on what makes a visualisation effective.

Mark has been a freelance graphic designer for over 25 years prior to which he worked in the commercial printing industry. He started delivering software training in 2001 after returning to the UK from California, where he lived from 1981 to 1998. Between 2014 and 2016 he was the director of a 43-acre Buddhist retreat centre in Northumberland, where he now lives. He divides his time between freelance training, freelance graphic design projects and writing, and currently has 3 books in print.

Deborah has been working in the graphic design industry since 1996 and has been a software trainer since 1999. After receiving her BA from F.I.T., an art school in New York City, she first started her career in a small design studio. She then went on to freelance for NY based companies such as Reebock Sports Club, Rolling Stone magazine, American Express, Saatchi and Saatchi, the NFL and many more.

Too often you find that your staff are being hyper-defensive when it comes to dealing with customers.
